08-22-08 F4J Quebec trial

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 22, 2008
Fathers 4 Justice Quebec member Benoit Leroux, aka Robin defends his innocence.
Is he a criminal? On Tuesday September 23 2008, the criminal trial of Benedict Leroux starts at the Palais de Justice in Montreal. Leroux climbed the Jacques Cartier bridge in May 2005 on behalf of Fathers 4 Justice, dressed as Robin, to display his simple message: Equal parenting. On this first day of hearing on motions, Leroux will request the disqualification of the judge or a stay. The question arises: "How, in all fairness, a judge can judge one who denounces the injustices perpetrated by the judges in their posts?"
Leroux will also be requesting a jury trial.
In 2006, Leroux went to the Supreme Court for a jury in his case, without success. F4J Fathers 4 Justice Canada members will be watching this case closely as 5 of their activists in Toronto will go to trial on charges from two separate non-violent direct political actions. The name of the judge and courtroom will be determined on September 23. The hearing on the merits is scheduled for December 2008.
