Stephane Dion * The Riddler

Hero or Zero?

This Election, we've been polling candidates from all political parties on their support for equal parenting. We'll be releasing a final report card on Friday.

Every day leading up to the election, we'll be releasing a different Trading Card proclaiming each party leader a Hero or a Zero.

We're looking for everyday superheroes to help protect our children's rights, not villains that would continue to have thousands of children each year missing one of their parents.

   Stephane Dion "The Riddler"

If you think you're confused as to why the Liberals don't support equal parenting, imagine how we feel!

Let's sum up the Liberal position on equal parenting over the past decade.

1997 - The Liberal government creates a joint house/senate committee on custody and access. This committee travels the country for a year and prepares a report to the government ( Liberal ) making 48 recommendations including moving towards a preusmption of 'shared' parenting.
This Committee was comprised of Senators and MP's from all political parties and cost tax payors several million dollars $

The result?

Shelved. Then Justice Minister Anne McLellan declares a 'moratorium' and the Liberal government does nothing about amending the Divorce Act.
They claimed it "needed more study"

2002 - This time they do Federal/Provincial/Territorial report on custody and access and child support. This time the team was made up of representatives from the provincial and territorial Justice departments and the Federal Justice Department. A report is released called Putting Children First.

The result?

This report neutralized some of the great steps towards equal parenting that had been made in For the Sake of the Children. They did make changes to child support enforcement. Martin Cauchon, Liberal Justice Minister is quoted as saying,"Parents do not have rights vis a vis their children, only responsibilities."

Isn't that slavery?

The Liberals introduce Bill C-22 which suggests 'window dressing' changes such as changing the 'words' custody and access. Many family rights groups protest and are able to defeat the bill.

2005 - The Liberal Party recognizes again, after 7 years of study etc. that children and parents are still being harmed by the family law system and laws.
The Liberal Party adopts into their platform the following resolution.

This document has been removed at the request of the person who originally provided it because we have used it to take an anti-Dion stand.

We will continue to look for a public version to reload.

So the Liberal Party certainly cannot claim that there is not a problem in family law or that it has been sufficiently dealt with by their party, ever!

Now, a mere 3 years later, we have the new Liberal Platform and their only concern with the Divorce Act is that it be modified to include domestic violence provisions.

When approached at a Town Hall meeting, Stephane Dion slipped out the back door.

The Gig is up Riddler!

This Justice League never quits.

This year marks the 10th Anniversary of For the Sake of the children, you have to answer on this to the Canadian Public.

See the SES Research Survey that shows 79.1% of Canadians Support equal parenting as a presumption in law.
